Two Fatal Accidents in Two Days: Cyclist in Prague and Scooter Rider in Plzeň

On Thursday evening, shortly before 11 p.m., a 32-year-old man riding a bicycle died at the scene after a collision with a passenger car at the intersection of Strakonická and U Lihovaru streets in the Smíchov district of Prague. Paramedics were unable to save him. The exact circumstances of the crash remain unclear. The driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs. The crash site is located on a main road with sharrows (cyklopiktogramy – eds.) and a total of five traffic lanes.

The organization AutoMat (MNK is an independent project of this association – editor’s note) commented on the incident, stating that any number of traffic deaths above zero is unacceptable. They expressed condolences to the victim’s family and called on politicians and public officials to take responsibility for the fact that dangerous infrastructure continues to endanger both cyclists and pedestrians.

Friends from the Bike Kitchen Praha collective have already installed a white ghost bike at the site to commemorate the tragedy.

Plzeň: Woman on scooter struck by truck

One day earlier, on Wednesday afternoon, a 34-year-old woman riding an electric scooter died in Plzeň. She was traveling on a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists on Přemyslova Street and was crossing on a combined pedestrian and cyclist crossing on a green light when she was hit by a turning truck as it entered Kalikova Street. Paramedics were unable to help.
