An Experiment in the Olomouc Region: 10 People Switched to Bikes for September

The Partnership for Urban Mobility association selected ten people from the Bystřička, Šternberk, and Uničov areas who will give up cars and other means of transport for an entire month and try to rely mainly on bicycles. For testing, they were provided with various bikes: two cargo bikes for carrying goods, two cargo bikes for transporting children, and six electric folding bikes.

“Cycling is not only more environmentally friendly and considerate toward people in cities, but it also has positive effects on physical fitness and helps people slow down their pace of life,” says Marek Pazdera (ODS), mayor of Velká Bystřice and one of the testers.

According to the organizers, the campaign is not only meant to motivate individuals to be more active, but also to show towns and municipalities that good conditions for cycling can change people’s transport habits. “Walking, cycling, or combining public transport with active movement creates ideal conditions for a healthy and sustainable lifestyle,” adds national cycling coordinator Jaroslav Martinek.

The Aktivní září campaign runs throughout the country and, besides this event in the Olomouc region, also includes other events promoting exercise, a healthy lifestyle, and sustainable transport.
