Where will cycle paths or parks be created? Influence the construction of the high-speed railway in Prague

On the map people can indicate, for example, polluted environments, excluded locations, poor transportation accessibility, dangerous traffic, or brown fields. Through the mental map, people can also highlight areas they wish to preserve or strengthen. In this case, they can mark valuable natural sites or meeting places on the map. SŽ will consider these inputs when creating the urban study and proposing railway routes. According to SŽ, the mental map should contribute to the creation of new cycle paths, sidewalks, parks, and playgrounds. SŽ itself encourages people to suggest locations where they would like to see cycle paths in connection with the construction of the VRT.

Currently, a pilot version of the mental map is available for the VRT section between Prague-Vršovice and Prague-Běchovice, which will connect to the planned VRT Polabí connecting Prague-Běchovice with Poříčany. According to SŽ, this project is intended to enable trains to enter the Prague hub and serve existing stations. People can contribute to the map until the end of January. SŽ will publish the evaluation in February on the same website.

The interactive mental map is intended to represent a new approach to VRT project planning. Architects and urban planners will start their work by mapping relationships in the area along with individual intentions, such as the construction of housing or the establishment of a new park. Subsequently, they will integrate the new track into the overall context. The collected feedback serves for a better understanding of the needs of local residents. Then, designers will start working, preparing track routing options with the urbanist team to ensure the best possible alignment through the territory and bring additional positive effects to the area around the track.
