The long-prepared reconstruction of the roof slab above the station hall on Prague’s Magistrála near the Main Railway Station has begun. Although earlier proposals included dedicated spaces for cyclists, according to the final project documentation, no bike lanes or protected bike paths will be created on this section of the road in either direction.
The project maintains the 3+3 lane layout. In the direction heading toward Holešovice, one lane will be reserved for buses, which cyclists will also be allowed to use. However, heading toward the National Museum (Muzeum), no cycling infrastructure is planned.
The main change for pedestrians and cyclists will be a new traffic-light-controlled pedestrian crossing aligned with the Fanta Building. This crossing will be combined with a bicycle crossing, allowing cyclists to cross the arterial road at this point—though without any onward bike lane connections.
The project also includes plans to improve the area in front of the Fanta Building, modify bus stops, and add new K+R (Kiss & Ride) spots for short-term car drop-offs.
On the side adjacent to Platform 1 of the Main Station, where the widened sidewalk from Vinohrady terminates, the sidewalk and the roadway will be leveled into a single continuous plane.
