A cycling crossing and a cycling-trafficable tram stop will be created in the vicinity of Čechův Bridge

The cycling crossing will be created along with a completely new pedestrian crossing on the western branch of the intersection, where the possibility of crossing the intersection was previously absent. It will connect busy cycling routes from Letná Park to the Čechův Bridge roadway. Its main purpose will be to facilitate travel towards the city center.

The Čechův Bridge tram stops will be transformed into raised trafficable stop platforms, known as ‚Vienna stops.‘ Despite allowing vehicular passage through the stop area, these platforms provide barrier-free access to trams.

While the stop in the direction towards the city center will have a trafficable platform for all traffic, the stop in the direction from the city center will take the form of a so-called ‚Vienna-style cycling stop.‘ The platform will be accessible exclusively to cyclists, while other traffic will circumnavigate the stop on the tracks.

This marks only the second trafficable platform stop, reserved exclusively for cyclists, in Prague. The first was established in 2014 in connection with an uphill cycling lane on Francouzská Street at the Krymská stop.

Thanks to this approach, cyclists can pass through without having to cross tram tracks, which can be an uncomfortable maneuver, especially in combination with increased car traffic. The Vienna-style raised cycling trafficable platform stop is chosen primarily in cases of tighter conditions, when a conventional detour around the stop area isn’t feasible.
