What are the city districts planning: Prague 22

Do you plan to build new bike paths, mark bike lanes, or legalize contraflow bicycle traffic in your district in the coming years? Where?

Yes, in our district there are currently four bike paths under construction. Uhříněves – Dolní Měcholupy, Uhříněves – Běchovice, Uhříněves – Pitkovičky, and Pitkovice – Benice.

Last year, a footbridge was built across Ke Kříži Street, but it leads directly into the one-way Semanského Street, so the construction does not allow for safe passage through side streets but „forces“ cyclists onto the main road. Will be a contrafloe bicycle passage allowed here? Do you plan to extend the bike path further to the train station? When?

The intention to allow a contraflow bicycle passage for the discussed bike route exists, if the width of the street allows it. We strongly support this solution, as a two-way lane on this street will fully utilize the route that already leads to the train station. The new footbridge strongly suggests this.

Do you plan further improvements to the permeability of your district for bike passage by allowing contraflow bicycle passage in oneway streets? Our readers suggest Semanského Street (bike route A239), Piccasova Street, Husovo náměstí Square, or Vackářova Street.

The situation regarding the development of the Prague Cycling General Plan is still evolving, and we are participating in this project, expecting improved passage for cyclists through municipalities. We welcome new possibilities of contraflow passage for cyclists.

Is there a plan to add bike racks on the streets? Where?

For individual bike path construction projects, there are proposals for bike parking at some locations, but there are currently no plans for additional specific locations.

What about bikesharing? Would you like to have it in Uhříněves?

Bikesharing, along with quality private bike storage at the train station and an expanded network of bike paths, could convince many people to leave their cars at home and switch to the train. It works in many European cities, and although it’s a gradual process here, it should not be neglected. For now, we are not interested in bikesharing without completed bike routes and supporting infrastructure. The traffic situation in Uhříněves is very complicated, but we plan to introduce this amenity in the future.

How else do you plan to improve conditions for cycling in your district?

Ongoing projects clearly show that we are constantly working to improve conditions for cyclists.

Which construction or change in the current election term will have the most positive impact on pedestrian and cycling transportation in your district?

Each of the new routes will improve the situation; it is most important to connect the expanding neighbourhood of Pitkovice not only with Uhříněves but also with Ladová through the Pitkovice-Benice route, which already has a building permit. The priority is to connect with the neighboring Municipal District of Prague 15 to Dolní Měcholupy. We see great potential here for pedestrian and cyclist mobility.

Which foreign city is an inspiration to you in terms of transportation?

Uhříněves has a specific transportation profile that is probably hard to find elsewhere abroad, as well as a potential model, but it is important to give people the opportunity to enjoy cycling here, safely if possible.

Do you ever travel around the city by bike? Why or why not?

Where traffic conditions allow, using a bike is suitable. Otherwise, in the current state of roads and streets, it is more of a traffic burden. Especially along Přátelství Street, it is often a risky mode of transportation.
