Once again, 140 shared bikes are returning to the streets of Přerov. People could rent bicycles this way for the first time from last June until the end of last year. Interest was record-breaking, representatives of the Přerov town hall stated. The rental of shared bikes, operated by Nextbike, is paid for by the city for the first 15 minutes.

Last year, town hall allocated nearly two million Czech crowns for this service, and this year 3.2 million crowns have been earmarked in the budget, told town hall spokesperson Lenka Chalupová ČTK.

People will be able to use shared bikes again from Friday, March 1. „This will happen after a two-month winter break, during which the 140 bikes were taken away and underwent inspection. The conditions for renting bikes remain the same – the first 15 minutes are free for the user, then they pay 24 crowns for every half hour. Interest in the service, which was launched at the beginning of the summer holidays last year, exceeded expectations – from July to the end of December, there were a total of 118,500 rentals,“ town hall stated on its website.

According to town hall representatives, the use of shared bikes in Přerov is record-breaking compared to other cities. For example, in October alone, operators recorded 27,500 rentals. The terrain, a well-developed network of cycle paths, and favorable weather played a role, according to city representatives. The most frequent users of the bikes were people at the railway station, followed by the Trumf shopping center and Předmostí, then the location near the sports center, at TGM Square,  near the Galerie Center, on Velká Dlážka, and also near the Jakub Škoda Gymnasium, stated the deputy mayor Tomáš Navrátil (ANO).

Specially marked bicycles with the city’s emblem can again be returned to more than forty stations, available throughout the city including its 13 city districts. According to its website, Nextbike Czech Republic operates a shared bicycle system in more than thirty cities. Users have access to over 7,000 bicycles and electric bikes.

In the Olomouc Region, people can also ride shared bikes in Prostějov and Olomouc.
