Prague 7: Holešovice gains a comprehensive two-way bike lane network

The conversion of one-way streets to two-way bike lanes is part of efforts to improve conditions for cycling in this flat district. The measure is implemented in 30 km/h zones, with the ability for cyclists to ride in the opposite direction indicated only by vertical signage and bike pictograms.

Two-way bike lanes have been marked on V Háji, Přístavní, U Měšťanského pivovaru, Poupětova, U Pergamenky, Kouteckého, U Parního mlýna, Malá Plynární, Stupkova, U Garáží, Tusarova streets, and two unnamed alleys between Tovární and Tusarova streets.

Pavel Zelenka (Praha Sobě), the Prague 7 councilor for transport, had these modifications designed a year ago. Prague 7 has been marking two-way bike lanes for a long time and is now proceeding with their comprehensive implementation in 30 km/h zones. After Lower Holešovice, Upper Holešovice, including Letná, will follow.

More than two kilometers

In total, the new two-way bike lanes measure 2,340 meters in length. Holešovice is becoming the third Prague district with comprehensive two-way bike lanes, following Karlín and Petrovice. Similar coverage exists in Kbely in Prague 19, but that cannot be considered comprehensive.

To achieve complete „two-way bike lane“ status in Lower Holešovice, the streets V Přístavu, Za Papírnou, U Papírny, U Staré Plynárny, and U Městských domů are still missing. Prague 7 is already addressing the last street, while various factors complicate the implementation of two-way bike lanes on the others. Even so, cycling in Holešovice will see significant improvement. Two-way bike lanes will allow hundreds of people daily to take more direct routes and avoid busy roads.
