On the 3rd of September, the new Nicholas Winton Avenue was ceremonially opened. Although currently a temporary asphalt path, this is the foundation of a future street that will connect Veletržní Avenue with Dělnická Street through the developing Bubny–Zátory area. Despite its provisional state, it already offers a number of new connections, easing movement across Prague 7.

The connection was made possible by the relocation of both the Kladno and Kralupy railway lines to a new viaduct, allowing for free passage under the bridge structures. In the future, the area will see the development of an entirely new district with a street network.

The new path is designated as a pedestrian walkway with permitted cycling, requiring adherence to a maximum speed limit of 20 km/h and increased consideration for pedestrians. However, the path is generously wide, providing ample space for all users.

A new east-west connection

Thanks to the new path, when traveling between Letná and Holešovice, it is now possible to avoid both the complicated Vltavská area and the less comfortable routes through Železničářů or U Výstaviště streets. The path is also connected to additional cycling infrastructure at both ends. Both areas feature a dense network of bikesharing stations, making it much easier to navigate across Prague 7.

Regarding the connecting infrastructure, the western part primarily features bike lanes, while in the east, in addition to bike lanes, cyclists can use legalized sidewalks along the entire Argentinská Street. In Holešovice, two-way cycling has also been almost universally permitted in one-way streets.

Approach from Letná

In the west, the path essentially begins at the junction of Veletržní Street and Bubenská. However, it is slightly offset from Bubenská, and you will find it near the former Bubny railway station building. To reach the path, you need to cross a short section with a very old surface in front of the Bubny station.

If you are arriving from Veletržní or Výstaviště, you can use a safe space for an indirect left turn from Bubenská, which is equipped with traffic lights.

For those coming from Strossmayerova Square, the recommended route is through Heřmanova and Bubenská streets (currently slightly complicated by the reconstruction of Dukelských hrdinů Street).

Approach from Holešovice

On the Holešovice side, the path directly connects to the legalized cycling sidewalks along Argentinská. The entry to the path is at the level of Dělnická Street. There are also ramps up to the path from the traffic lanes at this point. You can ride along Dělnická and join the path just after crossing the Argentinská intersection.

More sections to follow

The entire area will continue to undergo development in the future. Several projects are being prepared that have the potential to significantly change the appearance and functionality of the whole area. In the near future, for example, we can expect new thoroughfares in the area between Výstaviště and Bubenská, linked to the reconstructed railway line. The renovation of the important Dukelských hrdinů Avenue is also in full swing.
