The Tašovice footbridge over the Ohře in Karlovy Vary is open for cyclists and pedestrians again since mid-August

„Expert inspections revealed degradation in many elements, with the bridge deck affected by rot and wood-decaying fungi. During the repairs, it was necessary to clean the structure, restore anti-corrosion protection, and replace the wooden components. The original spruce wood, which decays more easily, was replaced with more durable larch wood by the city organization Lázeňské lesy a parky Karlovy Vary, which participated in the repair,“ said Kyselá.

Since mid-August, the bridge has been open for both pedestrians and cyclists.

For more than three months, a detour on the main Ohře cyclepath was routed from Svatošské rocks to Doubí, via a road bridge over the Ohře, before rejoining the cyclepath. The general repair of the footbridge on U Brodu Street in the Tašovice district of Karlovy Vary cost the city approximately 1.6 million CZK. The city partially used a grant from the Karlovy Vary Region’s program for the development of cycling infrastructure to fund the repair.

The footbridge was built by the Karlovy Vary Region in 2015 as part of the main Ohře cyclepath, and the city subsequently took over its management.
