Housing estate Flora in Kunratice introduces two-way cycle lanes

This initiative was part of an update to traffic signage in the estate. A 30 km/h zone was marked in residential streets, parking spaces were modified, and safety around pedestrian crossings was improved. According to norms and city strategies, such traffic calming should include enhancing bicycle accessibility. For instance, Technical Conditions 179 of the Ministry of Transport (TP 179 MD) mandate that two-way cycle lanes be broadly implemented.

The local authority has thus introduced two-way cycle lanes throughout the estate, except for Jana Růžicka and a section of Hornomlýnská Street (between Dolnomlýnská and Urešova), where the combination of sharp turns and parking made the implementation unsafe.

In the remaining parts of Hornomlýnská, Urešova, and K Novému Hradu streets, two-way cycle lanes were implemented. This was done using vertical signage only, as further markings are generally not required in residential or 30 km/h zones, with some exceptions.

The low-cost measure improves the neighborhood’s accessibility for cyclists. It shortens many routes and allows partial avoidance of the busy U Kunratického lesa street when traveling further into Kunratice.
