Lítačka bicycle rentals increased by 25 percent in 2023

Since October 2021, Prague has been offering two free bike rides a day to public transport subscribers, valid for up to 15 minutes. In 2023, a total of 756,844 bike rentals took place on Lítačka with Nextbike and Rekola, averaging 2,074 rides per day. In 2022, there were 567,264 rides on Lítačka, averaging 1,554 per day.

September was the most popular month for rentals, with 95,000 rides, accounting for 12% of the total for the year. The least busy month was frosty and snowy December, but even then, residents of Prague made 25,000 bike rides, representing 3% of the total for the year.

The most popular day was Wednesday, May 31, with 4,240 rentals in a single day. According to Prague Integrated Transport (PID), people most frequently rent bikes between Tuesday and Thursday. The average ride duration is 5 minutes, roughly equivalent to a distance of 1.5 kilometers on a bike.

Since the start of the shared bike service on Lítačka, 60,000 people have utilized it, nearly 5 percent of Prague’s residents. 25,000 users joined just in the year 2023.

Popular areas for bike rentals include the districts of Karlín, Holešovice, Dejvice, and Letná. Similarly favored are Vysočany, Libeň, and Vršovice. Cycling along the Vltava River, from Troja to Modřany, is also a common practice. Bike rentals are often connected with tram stops or metro and train stations, a fact praised by Prague Integrated Transport (PID): „It signifies the fulfillment of intentions to expedite the journey to the destination through the advantageous combination of public transport and bikes.“
