The Vltavská cyclepath (A2) between Prague and Klecany has been passable again since noon yesterday. The Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic has completed stabilization work on the rock face that had caused the closure of the route. The repairs were finished earlier than originally announced by authorities.
“The removal of the unstable section is complete and the cyclepath is now fully safe,” stated the municipality of Zdiby. A certified geotechnical report confirmed that the risk of a rockslide has been eliminated. The fencing barriers that had blocked access since June were taken down over the course of the day.
“The Nature Conservation Agency has completed the cliff stabilization, which is a pleasant surprise — just three weeks ago we were still hearing estimates of work lasting through the end of the summer holidays,” said Petr Borecký (STAN), regional councillor for transport in Central Bohemia. “Let’s hope the rock holds this time,” he added.
The path is the only cycling route connecting Prague with its northern outskirts along the Vltava River. It is part of the EuroVelo 7 international cycle route, used not only by tourists but also by residents of Řež and Klecany for daily commuting. The closure — which lasted since November with several interruptions — had been a major inconvenience for locals.
The initial detours were only approximate and often routed cyclists onto busy roads. There was a lack of clear signage and no proper alternative. Řež local councillor Daniel Münich emphasized the need for a systematic solution, such as a temporary bridge or ferry service, noting that the closure lasted nearly half a year.
