Along Dobronická Street, which connects the districts of Kunratice and Libuš, riding bikes on the sidewalk has been legalized. This decision in the south of Prague will assist people on the A21 bike route.
In total, 400 meters of sidewalks have been legalized for bike riding. Between the two sections of legalized sidewalks, cyclists can use the asphalt service roads.
Like the roadway on Dobronická Street, the sidewalk is not in the best technical condition – it includes cracks and potholes. The Prague-Kunratice district proceeded with its legalization anyway – to allow people on bikes to use this street more safely until the time of reconstruction.
On the Libuš side, legalization ends at Obrataňská Street, while on the Kunratice side, it ends before the roundabout „At the Three Saints“. Here, people can either dismount from their bikes and walk them across towards Kunratice or take to the road to navigate through the busy roundabout.
The change was initiated by citizens.
The new connection, along with the contraflow bike lanes established in Libuš last year, enables access to Kunratice from Novodvorská Street and from Písnice through side streets and apart from busy road traffic, as shown in the diagram below:
