Prague has completed the reconstruction of the sidewalk between the U Labutě stop and the Kačerov metro station in Prague 4. The sidewalk is now wider, with a new surface, and legalized for cycling.
The 3 to 3.75-meter-wide path for pedestrians and cyclists, spanning 900 meters, was partially supplemented with lighting. The project also included the relocation of DPP and PRE cables. Barrier-free modifications and related adjustments to existing greenery were added. Along Michelská Street, the highway guardrail was removed.
The route is part of bike route A42, which will be marked as part of the implementation. Construction took place in spring 2024, though it could have been completed by autumn 2023, but the city did not allocate the funds. The project has been discussed since 2003, when the first plan to renovate the sidewalk appeared.
At the Kačerov metro station, the path ends before the bus platforms, where bikes must be walked through. The path continues on the other side, connecting to an older pedestrian and cyclist path and bike route A22, which links the Vltava River and Jižní Město. At the intersection with Budějovická Street and the Jižní spojka, it is possible to continue to the Budějovická metro station via a number of crossings.
Before construction, the path had a deteriorated asphalt surface, and the 400-meter-long section along Michelská Street was not legalized for cycling.
