A section of the reconstructed sidewalk along Strakonická Street in Prague, one of this year’s major city investments in cycling infrastructure, has already been opened.
Out of the 1700 meters of the sidewalk, approximately 500 meters between the railway bridge and U Královské louky Street has now been opened. The modifications confirmed that it is merely a repair of the sidewalk and curb adjustments. The sidewalk’s width remained the same (approximately 2 to 3 meters), and the signs remain in the middle of it. The curbs have not been fully lowered; a small step still remains at crossings and ramps from the sidewalk. According to the Technical Road Administration (TSK), five streetlights will be relocated as part of the construction.
In terms of signage, it remains a legalized sidewalk, as it has been since 2021. The total completion is planned for August 30 of this year. In the future, the superior cycling route A1 is to be routed along this sidewalk.
Along with riding on the legalized sidewalk, there is still the option to cycle towards the city center using integration measures in traffic. Pictogram corridors and unreserved bike lanes are marked here.
