Prague-Letňany: Reconstruction of Beranových Street did not improve cycling conditions

Beranových Street connects the important streets Toužimská and Tupolevova, linking various types of cycling infrastructure on both ends. Except for a few minor changes, the reconstruction preserved the original state, with a partially marked bike lane (toward the city center), a partial piktokoridor, and, in one section, the bike route follows a sidewalk marked as a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists.

One improvement is the addition of raised crossings at the entrance and exit of the gas station in the southern part of the street, giving the bike path priority over cars. Additionally, a designated bike lane was added toward the city center, spanning a 180-meter section between Toužimská and Dudkova streets.

However, the outdated and inconsistent cycling infrastructure in the street remained even after the reconstruction. The sidewalks largely remained in their original state. When asked why the conditions for cyclists were not significantly improved, Bára Soukupová, chairwoman of Prague’s Cycling Commission (Pirates), explained that the city district did not request better cycling conditions.
