What are the city districts‘ plans: Prague 15

1. Do you plan to build new cycle paths, mark bicycle lanes, or legalize cycling routes in your district in the coming years? Where?

Our priorities for „Cycle paths off the roads and out of the city“ (see image) are addressed at two levels:

• Connecting existing main cycling routes within the Prague 15 area to ensure smooth movement of cyclists with minimal interaction with road traffic.
• Interconnecting the west-east and south-north routes within the district, taking into account the completion of planned road constructions in the southeast of Prague (construction of Route 511, the Hostivař connection, and the bypass of Hornoměcholupská street).

Do you have a timeline for these paths?

Comprehensive connectivity is like a puzzle – segments of cycle paths are often dealt with by different owners, and it’s always a long-term process. However, the closest to realization is the connection between Švehlova – ZŠ Hostivař (zoning plan complete) in Hostivař, the R.Měcholupy – east cycle path (zoning plan to be approved), and the cycle path along Radiová Street (undergoing a change in the zoning plan).

2. Our readers would be interested to know if you plan to build a cycle path or bicycle lanes on Hornoměcholupská Street?

We do not support bicycle lanes on Hornoměcholupská Street, which, as a matter of fact, belongs to the City of Prague, including the responsibility for signage. We support technical elements on this street to ensure safety, including illuminated pedestrian crossings and local signage for bus lanes.

3. Are you planning to improve the accessibility of your district for cycling? For example, by implementing contraflow bike lanes, perhaps within 30 km/h zones?

Contraflow bike lanes are not our priority; they are being addressed by the City of Prague. We are addressing parking legality, street permeability for emergency services in residential areas, and safety in the context of the current practice of placing waste separation and mixed waste containers in road lanes, as well as solutions for electric vehicle charging stations near transformer stations.

3. Is there a plan to install more bike racks in the streets? Where?

The priority in this matter is to install bike boxes at railway stations and tram termini.

And what is the timeline for this?

It is closer in Hostivař (2023-2024, depending on finances) than at the train station in Horní Měcholupy (currently only a study for station reconstruction).

4. How do you feel about bike sharing? Are you striving for a denser network of bike-sharing parking or its expansion?

We will wait and see how it is resolved in the city center, and then we will decide.

5. How else do you intend to improve cycling conditions in your district?

As I mentioned in the first question, the concept of „Cycle paths off the roads and out of the city“ also applies to cycle paths across the territory of Prague 15, ensuring that cyclists can move with minimal interaction with road traffic.

6. Which construction or change during this term of office will have the most positive impact on pedestrian and cycling traffic in your district?

The completion of the network of cycling/pedestrian connections in the Na Groši area and the Horní Měcholupy-east area.

7. Which foreign city serves as an inspiration for you in terms of transportation?

Vienna, Vancouver, and Seattle.

8. Do you ever move around the city by bike?

Through the Hostivař Forest Park.

9. Do you follow our magazine?

I will probably start.
