In July in Prague, more people borrowed shared bikes using Lítačka than in the previous year

Compared to June, this number is about one-fifth lower, as many people use bicycles for their commute to work or school, Drápal mentioned. People with the lítačka card can borrow shared bicycles for free up to twice a day for 15 minutes each time.

During the first half of this year’s Summer holidays, 72,856 people utilized the option of shared bikes in Prague, which is approximately 39 percent more than in the same month last year, according to Drápal. „Certainly, this is also due to the extremely favorable weather this June and July, as well as the fact that more and more people are becoming aware of this service,“ the spokesperson stated.

Awareness of the service continues to grow

More people rented bikes in June than in July, by around 20 percent, according to Drápal, which indicates that many individuals use the bikes for commuting to work or school. „It also quite accurately reflects the decrease in public transport usage during the summer holidays,“ he added.

According to Drápal, Prague residents most commonly rent bikes for a period of five minutes. People mostly rent bikes on weekdays, with Mondays through Wednesdays being the busiest. The peak usage times, according to Ropid, are around 06:00 in the morning and around 15:00 in the afternoon.

Holders of the Lítačka card, the electronic subscription pass for the Prague Integrated Transport (PID), can borrow shared bikes from the companies Rekola and Nextbike for free for up to 15 minutes twice a day. Interested individuals can do so after linking the Rekola or Nextbike mobile applications with their PID Lítačka account. Bike rental is available to holders of all types of time-based passes.
