Up to CZK 40,000 for an E-Cargo Bike: Ministry launches support for emission-free transport

Call No. 11/2025 – “Sustainable Urban Transport and Mobility”, part of the National Environmental Program, aims to reduce transport emissions and promote sustainable mobility in cities and municipalities. A total of CZK 300 million has been allocated to support zero-emission vehicles. The program covers the purchase of various types of electric vehicles, including cargo e-bikes for public institutions.

Cargo E-bikes as part of emission-free urban transport

Cargo e-bikes can offer a flexible and environmentally friendly solution for transporting goods over short distances, especially in densely built-up urban areas. They’re quiet, take up less space than cars, and help reduce both traffic congestion and emissions. While their use is fairly common abroad, in the Czech Republic they’re mostly seen in private companies — two cargobike depots are currently operating in central Prague.

Now, the government is enabling municipalities, public organizations, schools, and non-profit entities to apply for funding. The subsidy per cargo e-bike is up to CZK 40,000, so applicants can receive up to CZK 120,000 when purchasing three bikes. The subsidy can cover up to 50% of acquisition costs, including promotion and outreach expenses.

Technical conditions and deadlines

Support is available only for e-bikes specifically designed for cargo transport. The vehicles must be equipped with either a mid-drive or hub motor and comply with European technical standards (e.g., EPAC 15194:2013 + A1). The cargo e-bikes must be able to carry at least 150 kg including the rider. They may have front or rear cargo areas and can be either single-track or two-track, according to representatives of the online store Ekolo.cz.

Applications can be submitted starting July 10, 2025, via the State Environmental Fund’s electronic system. The call is non-competitive, and applications will be processed in the order received. Supported projects must be completed by July 2026 at the latest, and projects must remain in operation for at least three years.

An opportunity for municipalities and non-profit organizations

This support is available not only to cities and municipalities, but also to public universities, research institutions, educational facilities, churches, and non-profit organizations. Cargo bikes can be used, for example, by municipal technical services, school operations, community centers, or for short-distance delivery services.

The grant thus creates space for the wider rollout of more sustainable electric cargo transport in Czech cities and towns.
